Introduction
You open a website and something real seems to happen. A 3D object floats, reacts to your mouse, falls with weight, catches the light. It feels less like a web page and more like a tiny video game. If you've ever wondered who builds sites like that, and whether your brand could have one, there's a good chance Lusion's name has come up.
Lusion is a Bristol-based creative production studio that specializes in real-time 3D, WebGL and interactive web experiences. Co-founded by Edan Kwan, the "WebGL Particle Guy", it won Awwwards Site of the Year 2023 and a Webby Award in 2024, and shows logos for brands like Porsche, Google, Coca-Cola, Sony and NVIDIA.
As a designer, I looked at Lusion's recent work, its services, what it likely costs and who it's best for. Let's see if it fits your project.
The Short Answer: Is Lusion Worth It?
Yes, if 3D and interactivity are the heart of your project, such as a product launch, a brand experience or a campaign, and you have a proper custom budget. If you need a standard marketing site, strong SEO or easy weekly editing, a different studio will be a better fit.

How I Wrote This Review
First, a quick heads-up: I run my own small design and no-code studio. I build websites too, though nothing like Lusion's real-time 3D. So I'm a loose competitor at best. I've kept that in mind and I'll say clearly where Lusion is the stronger choice.
I haven't hired Lusion. On October 31, 2026, I reviewed Lusion's About page, its Awwwards Site of the Year page and 2019 case study, its Webby award, its DesignRush profile, the Awwwards Conference speaker page and recent Codrops coverage. After that, I studied the work itself, as a designer would.
What Is Lusion?
Lusion (official site: lusion.co) describes itself as a boutique creative production studio. Its team of designers and developers specializes in design, motion, 3D and technology.
Here are the basics:
Co-founder: Edan Kwan, Co-founder and Creative Director. According to the Awwwards Conference, he grew up in Hong Kong, moved from being a contract singer to a Flash developer, and became known as the "WebGL Particle Guy".
Founded: 2017, according to DesignRush.
Location: Bristol, UK, with specialists working worldwide.
Team size: under 49 people, per DesignRush.
R&D: Lusion runs an experimental lab at labs.lusion.co.
Contact: new business enquiries go to a dedicated address listed on its About page.
In short, Lusion is developer-led. In its 2019 Awwwards case study, the team called itself "developers at heart", and that shows in everything it makes.
Lusion's Recent Work (2024โ2026)
Lots of people search for Lusion's recent work, so here's what I could confirm publicly:
Project | What it is | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Oryzo (2026) | A showcase product site for a cork coaster | Real-time 3D with physics-style motion and a smooth 3D-to-2D transition; a DesignRush finalist in May 2026 |
Porsche: Dream Machine | Interactive campaign experience | Shows Lusion working with a major automotive brand |
My Little Storybook | Interactive storytelling piece | Shows playful, narrative 3D work |
Lusion v3 (2023) | The studio's own website | Awwwards Site of the Year and Developer Site of the Year 2023, Webby winner 2024 |
Client list on DesignRush | Meta, Devin AI, Spaace, Synthetic Human, Porsche | A strong mix of big tech and AI brands |
Codrops featured Lusion in April 2026, highlighting Oryzo, Porsche: Dream Machine and My Little Storybook. I couldn't confirm exact launch dates for every project, so check Lusion's site for the newest work.
What Oryzo tells you about Lusion
Oryzo is a fictional product, a cork coaster, so it works purely as a showcase. According to DesignRush, the coaster moves with inertia and weight, rendered live in the browser with Three.js and WebGL. The parallax extends into depth, the camera orbits as you scroll, and the 3D model smoothly becomes part of a flat UI layout. Film grain and light leaks add a cinematic feel.
Turning a coaster into something you want to keep scrolling is a good sign of what Lusion could do for a real product.
What Services Does Lusion Offer?
Lusion's About page groups its services into four areas:
Area | What it includes | Example |
|---|---|---|
Strategy | Digital experience and tech strategy, creative direction, discovery, research | Planning an interactive launch |
Creative | Art direction, UX/UI, motion, interactive design, illustration | Designing a 3D product story |
Tech | WebGL, front-end development, Unity/Unreal, installations, AR and VR | Building a real-time web experience |
Production | Procedural modeling, 3D assets, animation, 3D pipelines | Optimized 3D models for the web |
What stands out: Lusion goes beyond websites. Unity/Unreal, interactive installations, AR and VR mean it can also build event pieces, physical installations and immersive experiences.
How Much Does Lusion Cost?
Lusion doesn't publish prices. DesignRush lists both its minimum budget and hourly rate as "Inquire", and I found no reliable public quote.
Project type | Pricing | What to know |
|---|---|---|
Interactive website | Custom quote | Real-time 3D adds development time |
Campaign experience | Custom quote | Often short-lived but high-impact |
3D asset production | Custom quote | Models must be optimized for the web |
Installations, AR and VR | Custom quote | Hardware and venue add complexity |
Strategy and discovery | Custom quote | Ask whether it's a separate phase |
The main catch: custom 3D takes custom time
Lusion's 2019 case study explains how its own site used precomputed cloth simulations, compressed vertex animations and offline renders synced with real-time effects. That level of craft takes skilled people weeks or months. Budgets for this kind of work are usually well above a standard website. That's my read as a designer, not a Lusion figure.
A worked example: scoping a 3D launch
Say you're launching a new pair of headphones and want an interactive product site.
Pick one hero moment. A rotating, explorable product model is often enough.
Plan the assets. Do you have CAD files, or does Lusion need to model the product?
Set a performance goal. Ask how it will run on a mid-range phone.
Plan the rest of the site. Your specs, FAQ and checkout pages may be better as a simpler, editable site.
That mix of one stunning 3D experience plus a practical site often gives you the best of both.
What Do Clients Say?
Lusion isn't on Clutch or Trustpilot. DesignRush shows a 5.0 rating from 3 Google reviews, but they're short and mostly about the studio's own website, not client projects.
The strongest proof is industry recognition:
Awwwards Site of the Year 2023 and Developer Site of the Year 2023 for Lusion v3.
Webby Award 2024 in Professional Services and Self-Promotion.
58 awards listed on its About page, including FWA Site of the Year, CSSDA Site of the Year and CommArts Best-in-Show Interactive.
Client logos from Porsche, Google, Apple, Sony and NVIDIA.
That shows world-class craft. It doesn't tell you about communication, timelines or budgets, so ask for a client reference.
How to Choose a 3D Web Design Agency
Several people found this page by asking which 3D web agencies are most reliable. Here's what I'd check with any studio, including Lusion:
Recent live work. Open their sites on your own phone, not just a desktop.
Performance. Ask about load times and fallback for older devices.
Accessibility and SEO. Ask how text content stays readable for screen readers and search engines.
Maintenance. Ask who updates the experience after launch, and what it costs.
References. Ask to speak with a client from a similar industry.
Communication. Ask who your day-to-day contact is and how often you'll see progress.
Is Lusion Legit?
Yes. Lusion has a public Bristol address, a named co-founder, top awards from Awwwards, FWA, CSSDA and the Webbys, conference talks and work for major brands. It's one of the most respected real-time 3D studios in the world.
My Honest Design Opinion
I'll be honest: Lusion's technical craft is stunning. Its sites feel physical. Objects have weight, light behaves naturally and transitions feel continuous rather than stitched together. Very few studios can do that in a browser.
But 3D-first sites aren't for every goal. They can be heavier to load, harder to update and not ideal for SEO-driven marketing. They shine for launches, campaigns and brand moments where the experience is the message.
My tip: use Lusion where it matters most, like a launch page or a flagship experience, and keep your everyday marketing pages on a simpler, editable platform.

automotive, tech, fashion and entertainment brands,
campaigns, events and installations,
agencies needing a specialist 3D production partner.
Who Should Look Elsewhere?
Look elsewhere if you:
need a standard marketing or service website,
care most about SEO and lead generation,

Questions to Ask Before You Sign
"What's a typical budget range for a project like ours?"
"How will it perform on mid-range phones?"
"Do you need our 3D or CAD files, or will you model the product?"
"How do you handle SEO and accessibility?"
"What happens after launch: updates, hosting and support?"
"Can we talk to a client from a similar project?"
Best Lusion Alternatives
These aren't ranked. I've listed myself first, but please read my disclosure above.

A Quick Note About Me
I'm Subarno, and I run a small design and no-code studio. I can't build real-time 3D worlds like Lusion. But if you want a clean, fast site in Framer or Webflow with tasteful animations your team can actually update, I might be the better fit for your budget.
My $1,000/month retainer covers:
website design in Figma,
website builds in Framer or Webflow,
branding for smaller businesses, like logos, colors and brand guides,
small website animations and interactions,
banners, posters and social media content.
You work with me directly, with no hourly billing. Book a free 30-minute call or reach out on my contact page. If your project needs true 3D, I'll point you to Lusion myself.
Final Verdict: Is Lusion Worth It?
Lusion is a legit, award-winning, world-class 3D web studio. For launches, campaigns and brand experiences where interactivity is the point, it's one of the best studios you could hire anywhere.
Use it for the right job. There's no public pricing, custom 3D is expensive to build and maintain, and it's not the best tool for an SEO-driven marketing site. Pick one hero experience, plan for performance and pair it with a simpler site for everyday content.
