Introduction
There's a moment many companies hit where a new logo won't fix the real problem. The business has changed, the market has moved, and the brand is telling an old story. What you need isn't decoration. It's a new idea about who you are, and a team that can turn that idea into everything people see and feel.
That's the space COLLINS works in. Founded by Brian Collins, a former Ogilvy creative leader, it's a brand and business transformation agency with studios in New York and San Francisco. It created the famous Spotify identity, redesigned Twitch and Ogilvy, and was named Ad Age's Business Transformation Agency of the Year 2026.
So, is COLLINS a good brand agency, and is it worth what it costs? As a designer, I looked at its work, programs, pricing and fit. Let's find out.
The Short Answer: Is COLLINS Worth It?
Yes, if you're an established or fast-growing company facing a real turning point, such as a new market, a new product or a reputation reset, and you want a bold, idea-led brand. If you need a simple logo or have a small budget, it's not the right fit.

How I Wrote This Review
First, a heads-up: I run my own small design and no-code studio, and I do branding for smaller businesses. So I'm one of the options you might compare with COLLINS, at a very different scale. I've tried to be fair and I'll say clearly where COLLINS is the stronger choice.
I haven't hired COLLINS. On October 31, 2026, I reviewed Brian Collins' Wikipedia page, a 2010 Adweek story on the firm going independent, The Drum's coverage of the Ogilvy rebrand, Business Eye and The ATDB coverage of its 2025 and 2026 Ad Age awards, an Ads of Brands story on its strategy team and COLLINS' own news page. After that, I looked at the work the way I'd look at any studio's: as a designer who builds things.
What Is COLLINS?
COLLINS (often written COLLINS: or Collins, with its site at wearecollins.com) describes itself as a strategy, design and communications company focused on transformation.
Here are the basics:
Founder: Brian Collins, who joined Ogilvy & Mather in 1998 to lead its new design and brand identity division and later served as chairman and chief creative officer of its brand and innovation group, according to Wikipedia.
Founded: around 2008. Its first job was a climate campaign with The Martin Agency. In 2010, Adweek reported that Collins took ownership of the firm after it ran for about three years as a unit of IPG's The Martin Agency.
Studios: New York and San Francisco. Karin Soukup has been named as San Francisco Managing Partner.
Philosophy: Brian Collins describes design as "a problem-seeking process", not just problem-solving.
Community: COLLINS runs a High School Design Internship Program and speaks at conferences worldwide.
What Services Does COLLINS Offer?
COLLINS positions its work as programs, not just design projects. Based on its public positioning:
Program | What it means | Example |
|---|---|---|
Brand creation | Building a brand from scratch | A new company launching a product |
Brand refresh | Updating an existing brand without losing its equity | Modernizing a well-known identity |
Repositioning and expansion | Changing what a brand stands for or where it plays | A company entering a new market |
Turnaround | Helping a brand recover from decline or a crisis | Rebuilding trust after a tough period |
Strategy and storytelling | The core idea and narrative | A new value proposition |
Identity systems and rollout | Logo, design system, digital and everything after | Ogilvy's new identity and website |
The COLLINS portfolio: a closer look
People often look for COLLINS' branding portfolio. Here are the best-documented projects:
Spotify (2015): a global redesign and identity system, named one of the year's most notable designs by Fast Company, Wired and Design Week, per Wikipedia. The bold duotone imagery became part of how people picture Spotify.
Twitch: a new logo and brand identity for the streaming platform.
Ogilvy (2018): an 18-month project to update Ogilvy's identity, design system, core values and website, covered by The Drum. Redesigning the agency where Collins once worked is a great story.
Robinhood: a brand reimagination and launch, per Ads of Brands.
Microsoft stores: brand and design development with The Martin Agency and Gensler.
Other clients named in press: Nike, ESPN and NASA.
How Much Does COLLINS Cost? Are They Expensive?
COLLINS doesn't publish prices. There's no rate card or minimum budget on public record, and every program is scoped individually.
Program | Pricing | What to know |
|---|---|---|
Brand creation | Custom quote | Strategy, identity and launch |
Brand refresh | Custom quote | Depends on how much changes |
Repositioning | Custom quote | Research-heavy |
Turnaround | Custom quote | Often urgent and senior-led |
Rollout support | Custom quote | Digital, environments and more |
Are they expensive? Almost certainly, for most businesses. COLLINS works with companies like Spotify, Nike and Ogilvy, runs studios in two of the most expensive US cities and was named Ad Age's agency of the year two years in a row. Agencies at that level price for established and well-funded companies. That's my read as a designer, not a COLLINS figure.
A worked example: who COLLINS makes sense for
Say you're a fintech company that grew fast, then lost trust after a bad year, and you're about to launch a new product line.
Turnaround thinking: what went wrong, and what does the brand need to stand for now?
New story: a clear idea your team and customers can believe.
Identity: a refreshed visual and verbal system.
Rollout: product, website, ads and internal communication.
That's a COLLINS-sized problem. A startup that just needs a nice logo isn't.
Is COLLINS a Good Brand Agency?
Yes. By most measures, COLLINS is one of the best brand agencies in the US. Here's why:
Industry recognition: Ad Age named it Design and Branding Agency of the Year in 2025 and Business Transformation Agency of the Year in 2026. Earlier, it was also Ad Age's first-ever Design Agency of the Year.
Iconic work: the Spotify identity is one of the most influential tech brands of the last decade.
Senior leadership: Brian Collins has decades of experience at the top of the industry.
Range: from tech (Spotify, Twitch, Robinhood) to agencies (Ogilvy) to sports (Nike, ESPN).
What I couldn't find: COLLINS isn't on Clutch or Trustpilot, and there are few detailed client reviews about budgets and timelines. Ask for a reference from a client with a similar challenge.
Is COLLINS Legit? Is It a Trustworthy Company?
Yes. COLLINS has a named founder with a long public career, nearly two decades of history, studios in New York and San Francisco, back-to-back Ad Age agency awards and well-documented work for Spotify, Twitch and Ogilvy. It's a well-established, trustworthy agency.
My Honest Design Opinion
I'll be honest: COLLINS' best work feels brave. The Spotify identity took a simple idea, duotone photography with bold color, and made it instantly recognizable. Twitch got a confident, playful refresh. These brands don't just look nice; they feel like they mean something.
What I like most is the thinking first approach. COLLINS sees design as a way to change how a company works, not just how it looks. That's why it wins "transformation" awards, not just design ones.
The trade-off is fit and cost. A bold, idea-driven agency works best when the client is ready to make real changes. If you just want a tidy refresh, you may find the process more than you need.
My tip: come to COLLINS with a real business problem, not a design request. "We're entering a new market and nobody knows us" is a better brief than "we need a new logo".
Pros of COLLINS

Cons of COLLINS
No public pricing.
Likely premium budgets.

Overkill for simple brand needs.
Few public details on timelines.
Who Should Hire COLLINS?
A good fit for:
established companies at a turning point,
tech and consumer brands entering new markets,
brands needing a turnaround after a tough period,
leadership teams ready for real change, not just a new look.
Who Should Look Elsewhere?
Look elsewhere if you:
are an early-stage startup with a tight budget,
just need a logo or website,
want a safe, small refresh,
need results quickly.
