Introduction

Choosing a product design agency is a bit like choosing a surgeon. Everyone's portfolio looks impressive. Everyone says they care about users. And you usually won't know if you chose well until months later, when the product is either live and working or stuck in endless revisions.

If you're looking at Aerolab, you're probably at that exact point. Maybe you've raised money and need to launch fast. Maybe you run product at a bigger company and need senior help without hiring. Either way, there's real money and time on the line, and Aerolab's polished website doesn't tell you the most important thing: what is it actually like to work with them?

As a designer who runs a small studio myself, I look at agencies like Aerolab with a mix of respect and healthy skepticism. In this review, I'll walk you through what Aerolab really does, who it has worked with, what it likely costs, what's missing from its public reputation, and when it makes sense to hire them or someone else.

The Short Answer: Is Aerolab Worth It?

Aerolab is a strong choice for funded startups and larger companies that need a real product designed and built, with brand and engineering in the same team. It's probably too much for small businesses that only need a website, and there are very few public client reviews to check before you sign.

How I Wrote This Review

I went through Aerolab's website, its published case studies and its founder interviews. I also checked its profiles on agency directories like The Manifest and TechBehemoths, and employee reviews on Glassdoor.

I haven't worked with Aerolab as a client, so this is an outside view. Where I'm sharing Aerolab's own claims, like case study results, I say so. And where public information is thin, I tell you plainly rather than filling the gap with guesses.

What Is Aerolab?

Aerolab is a digital product design agency with offices in Brooklyn, New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina. It designs and builds apps, platforms and websites for startups and large companies.

A quick bit of history

Aerolab started the way many good studios do: by accident. Co-founders Agustin Linenberg and Roberto Gonzalez began designing websites as university students, as favors for friends of friends. Around 2011–2012, they rented an office, hired their first employees and gave the agency its name.

A few details stand out:

  • Agustin Linenberg (CEO) was named in Forbes 30 Under 30 and studied at MIT.

  • Roberto Gonzalez (CTO) created Popcorn Time, an open-source app with over 100 million users.

  • The agency says it has been bootstrapped and profitable since day one, with no outside investors.

  • About 60% of its revenue comes from upsells and long-term clients, and nearly all new work comes from inbound leads.

That last point is a quiet signal. Agencies that grow mostly from repeat clients and referrals usually do something right.

What makes it different from a typical design studio

Most design studios hand you a Figma file. Aerolab can take you from idea to working product, with designers, engineers and strategists on the same team. That's a big difference if you don't have your own engineering team yet.

What Services Does Aerolab Offer?

A React and Next.js web platform

Its case studies mention modern tools like React, Next.js, headless CMS setups and OpenAI's API. So this isn't a no-code studio. It builds custom products in code.

Which industries does Aerolab work in?

Aerolab lists a wide range, including AI, fintech, healthcare, edtech, climate tech, e-commerce, entertainment, agritech, insurance, real estate and enterprise SaaS. Its founder has said that a growing share of new work involves AI, especially in real estate, and that it recently launched a branding unit for early-stage companies.

Aerolab's Clients and Notable Projects

This is where Aerolab is strongest. Its client list is far bigger than you'd expect from a team of its size.

Well-known clients include:

  • Tech: Meta (including Facebook's Innovation Lab), Auth0, MaintainX, Mural

  • Finance: American Express, Naranja, Sura, Ripio, Grupo Petersen

  • Consumer and retail: McDonald's, Mercado Libre, Disney

  • Media: Cartoon Network, A24

  • Startups: Pachama, Tempo, Brightwave, Endeavor

Some results from Aerolab's own case studies:

Client

What Aerolab did

Reported result

Naranja

A faster, accessible digital platform

3x faster load times and +21% mobile visits

Grupo Petersen

Faster banking sites with a design system

50% faster page loads

Pachama

A carbon marketplace from discovery to launch

Mercado Libre

A recruitment launch

100,000+ applicants

McDonald's

Kitchen operations and food waste tools

Rolled out across its locations

A24

A mobile-first news experience

Won a Martín Fierro award in 2018

These numbers come from Aerolab itself, so treat them as the agency's claims rather than independent proof. Still, they're specific, and specific claims are easier to check on a reference call than vague ones.

Aerolab Reviews: What Do Clients Say?

This is the most searched question about Aerolab, so I want to be very honest here.

There are very few public client reviews of Aerolab. Its profile on The Manifest shows no client reviews, and I couldn't find a meaningful set on other review sites. That's unusual for an agency with 300+ projects.

What strengths come through

Even without many reviews, a few strengths show up consistently across its case studies, interviews and long client relationships:

  • Range: strategy, design, brand and engineering in one team.

  • Big-name experience: working with enterprises like McDonald's and Amex isn't easy to fake.

  • Speed on focused projects: several case studies describe launches in a few sprints, like the Facebook Innovation Lab site in two weeks.

  • Long relationships: about 60% of revenue from existing clients suggests many come back.

What criticisms or concerns are there?

Since there are so few client reviews, there aren't many public complaints either. But here are the honest concerns I'd raise as a buyer:

  • Little independent proof. You'll have to rely on references and case studies, most of which Aerolab wrote itself.

  • Timelines can stretch. The founder has openly said that, in the early years, projects often ran longer than estimated. That was years ago, but it's worth agreeing on milestones.

  • No public pricing. You can't compare costs without a proposal.

  • Split time zones. Much of the team is in Buenos Aires. That's usually close to US time, but it matters for teams in Europe or Asia.

What do employees say?

On Glassdoor, Aerolab scores about 4.1 out of 5 from employees, and most would recommend it to a friend. Reviewers praise the culture and call it a good place to learn. Pay and benefits score lowest. That's about the workplace, not client results, but happy teams often do better work.

How satisfied are long-term clients?

There's no public survey, but the strongest signal is that most of Aerolab's revenue comes from returning clients and upsells. One example from its founder: a project for Lemon Wallet started as a homepage redesign and grew into about six months of product and marketing work. Clients don't usually expand like that unless they're happy.

Is Aerolab Legit?

Yes. Aerolab is a real, established agency:

  • It's been operating for more than a decade.

  • It has real offices in Brooklyn and Buenos Aires.

  • Its founders are public, well-known people in the industry.

  • It has named, checkable clients like McDonald's, Meta and American Express.

  • Its team of about 50–70 people shows up across LinkedIn and Glassdoor.

"Legit" isn't the real question, though. The real question is whether Aerolab fits your project, budget and way of working.

Why Aerolab can be good value

An hourly range of $30–70 is much lower than many US or European agencies with a similar client list. That's partly because much of the team is in Argentina. You may get senior, enterprise-tested design and engineering for less than a New York or London agency would charge.

A worked example

Say you're a seed-stage fintech founder who needs a working MVP: a mobile app, a web dashboard and a brand. A realistic Aerolab project might look like this:

  1. Discovery and strategy: two to three weeks to define the first version.

  2. Brand and product design: the identity, key flows and a small design system.

  3. Build: several sprints of frontend and backend engineering.

  4. Launch and iteration: fixes and improvements once real users arrive.

With a $25,000 minimum and hourly rates around $30–70, a project like this could easily run well past the minimum once you add engineering. Ask for a breakdown by phase so you can see where the money goes.

Does Aerolab offer post-launch retainers?

Aerolab doesn't publish a retainer plan, but ongoing work is a big part of its business. Many clients continue after launch with new features, design system updates and iterations. If you need help after launch, ask about monthly capacity and response times in your proposal.

How Aerolab Works With Startups vs Enterprise Companies

Aerolab works with both, but the projects look different.

With startups, the focus is usually on 0-to-1 work: turning an idea into a first product, often with a brand alongside it. Its new branding unit for early-stage companies fits here too. Speed and getting to launch matter most.

With enterprises, like McDonald's, Amex or regional banks, the work tends to be redesigns, platforms and design systems, with more stakeholders and longer timelines. Results like "50% faster page loads" for Grupo Petersen are typical of this kind of work.

If you're somewhere in between, like a Series A or B SaaS company, ask which type of team you'll get and how much senior time is included.

How Does Aerolab Compare With Other Product Design Agencies?

Aerolab often gets compared with well-known product design agencies like MetaLab, Clay, Work & Co, Ramotion and ustwo. Here's the simple version:

  • Versus traditional UX and branding agencies: many agencies do either design or engineering. Aerolab does both, plus brand, in one team. That's its main difference.

  • Versus US and UK agencies: Aerolab's Argentina-based team can mean lower rates for similar experience, with time zones that overlap well with the US.

  • Versus bigger names: some competitors have larger teams or more public awards. Aerolab's portfolio is strong, but its public review footprint is smaller.

The honest answer is that at this level, fit matters more than rank. Look at the projects closest to yours, not just the most famous logos.

What to Know Before Hiring Aerolab

If you're seriously considering Aerolab, here's what I'd keep in mind:

  • Bring a clear goal. Agencies like this work best when you know what success looks like, like "launch an MVP by March" or "cut onboarding time in half."

  • Ask about the team. Find out who will actually work on your project and how senior they are.

  • Check the closest case study. If you're in fintech, look closely at Naranja, Ripio or Grupo Petersen. If you're in AI, look at Brightwave or Endeavor.

  • Get references. Since public reviews are thin, a reference call is your best proof.

  • Plan for after launch. Decide early whether Aerolab will keep supporting the product or hand it to your own team.

My Honest Design Opinion

What I like most about Aerolab, from a designer's point of view, is that it doesn't stop at the pretty part. Plenty of studios make beautiful screens that fall apart once engineers try to build them. Aerolab's mix of designers and engineers, plus results like faster load times and launches in a few sprints, suggests it thinks about how products actually work.

My one hesitation is the missing public feedback. An agency with this client list should have a trail of client reviews, and it doesn't. That doesn't mean anything is wrong. Many top agencies get all their work through referrals and never ask for reviews. But it does mean you need to do more of the checking yourself.

Pros of Aerolab

  • Design, brand and engineering in one team.

  • Impressive client list, from McDonald's to American Express.

  • More than a decade of experience and 300+ projects.

  • Good value compared with US and European agencies.

  • Strong in AI and fintech, two fast-growing areas.

  • Long client relationships suggest people come back.

  • Well-known founders who are open about the business.

Cons of Aerolab

  • Very few public client reviews.

  • No published pricing.

  • Probably too much for a simple website or small budget.

  • Directory price data may be out of date.

  • Timelines need clear milestones, especially on bigger builds.

  • Time zones may be tricky for teams outside the Americas.

Who Should Hire Aerolab?

Aerolab is a strong fit for:

  • funded startups that need a first product designed and built,

  • seed to Series B companies that want brand and product done together,

  • B2B SaaS, fintech and AI companies,

  • larger companies that need a redesign or design system,

  • teams without in-house engineers who want one partner from idea to launch.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

You may want another option if you:

  • only need a marketing website or landing page,

  • have a budget well under $25,000,

  • want lots of public reviews before deciding,

  • already have a product team and just need extra design hands,

  • need a team that works fully in European or Asian hours.

Questions to Ask Before You Sign

  1. "Can I speak to a client from a project like mine?"

  2. "Who exactly will be on my team, and how senior are they?"

  3. "What's included: strategy, design, engineering, QA, launch?"

  4. "How do you handle scope changes and timeline slips?"

  5. "What does support look like after launch?"

  6. "Who owns the code, design files and accounts?"

  7. "What hours will the team overlap with mine?"

A Quick Note About Me

I'm Subarno, and I run a small design and no-code studio. I'll be upfront: if you need a full product designed and engineered, with a dozen people working on it, Aerolab is the kind of team you want, and I'm not.

But I talk to plenty of founders who start out looking at agencies like Aerolab and realize they need something simpler first. Maybe it's a website that explains the product properly before the app exists, or a brand that looks credible in front of investors.

That's where I can help. My $1,000/month retainer means you work directly with me, with no hourly billing and no surprise invoices. It covers:

  • website design in Figma,

  • website builds in Framer or Webflow,

  • branding for smaller businesses, like logos, colors and brand guides,

  • small website animations and interactions,

  • banners, posters and social media content.

If that sounds closer to where you are, book a free 30-minute call or reach me through my contact page. If your project really needs a team like Aerolab, I'll say so, and happily point you their way.

Final Verdict: Is Aerolab Worth It?

Aerolab is a serious, experienced product design and engineering agency. Its client list, its founders and its long-term relationships all point the same way: this team can design and build real products for demanding clients. And thanks to its Argentina-based team, it may cost less than comparable agencies in the US or Europe.

The catch is the lack of public client reviews and no published pricing. Neither is a red flag on its own, but both mean you need to do your homework. Ask for references, get a phased proposal and agree on clear milestones.

If you're a funded company building a real product, Aerolab deserves a spot on your shortlist. If you're earlier than that and need a website or brand first, start smaller. And if you'd like a second opinion, I'm happy to talk it through.
